(relief)(effort)

"I arise in the morning torn between a desire to improve the world and a desire to enjoy the world" -my cousin Terrence's fb 1/15 am

in light of the disaster in haiti i thought id actually make mlk day a day of service, like ur sposed to. maybe we can find something here directly haiti-related, i thought. i went here:
http://www.serve.gov/

a girl i used to dance with said to make sure your money goes where its sposed to, like http://www.usfch.org/

i feel like that $5 or $10 text will be a drop in the bucket. cuz it will. but its gotta be enough to..........get some bandages?water?food item?
plus, i dont pay my own phone bill! leech...

Martin Luther King, Jr. said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: what are you doing for others?”

WHAT AM I DOING FOR OTHERS?!

im mostly very lazy, selfish, and aloof nowadays

my worry about volunteering was that id be anchored to one place but duh have somewhere to volunteer EVERYWHERE i go.... this is a big city, gotta be somethin settin up or organizin donations for haiti... or chicago... or rural illinois

mostly i dont wanna be that cushy american watchin these horrific cnn videos sayin "oh what a shame" and goin on about my day (un)business as usual.

but its rubys birthday
we're going out to eat
albeit, we're having "sista circle"
meaning we'll count our blessings and split the check

and tomorrow dance the nite away in honor of her third decade
and the next day ill fly off to riverside, california and dance that nite away for $150
and the next day ill fly back and we'll do some laundry and watch some hulu and plan mlk day
and the next day we'll sleep in but hopefully GET UP GET OUT AND DO SOMETHIN.
